Our Story
Jen and Shelby met in 2023 when Jen served as the death doula for Shelby’s husband, Nick, who died of cancer in August 2024. Walking through Nick’s end-of-life journey together was both profound and transformative. His death was marked by deep grief, tenderness, and meaningful connection — an experience that revealed how the dying process can be approached with intention, presence, and reduced fear.
Jen and Shelby’s partnership was formed through shared commitment to compassionate deathcare. Together, they combine professional guidance, personal insight, and heartfelt presence to support individuals and families through one of life’s most sacred passages.
About the festival
The Before I Die Cincinnati Festival is a community-centered event that invites open conversations about death, mortality, loss, and grief. Rooted in a global movement and shaped by our local community, it creates space for reflection, connection, and exploration of what matters most.
This is a space to reflect, to connect, and to listen for the quiet wisdom that emerges when we turn toward, rather than away from, death.
